This Autumn, we once again welcomed students from L’École de Battersea to take part in our Forest School program. It was wonderful to introduce the children to our Nature Trail, which they quickly made their own by moulding mischievous Forest Trolls from clay, creating custom bunting through leaf pounding and building extraordinary dens, perfect for story-time and the ever-popular hot chocolate!
Joined by our marvellous and energetic volunteers, Mary I’Anson, Isabel Scott and Maxine de Beer, we led the children on a 6-week nature-immersed journey with a new theme each week. Themes ranged from Den Building to Superworms to Magic to Plants, with a flow of immersive activities and play in support. For the final session, the children had the opportunity to vote for their favourite activity – den building and hot chocolate (complete with giant marshmallows), potion making and nature crowns were the clear winners. We also had the opportunity to play one final round of 1-2-3, Where Are You?, a favourite Forest School game similar to Hide and Seek.
Feedback was positive from the teachers and children week over week in spite of some weather challenges:
Despite the weather, the children enjoyed it, especially the potion making. They like all the messy play.
Many thanks to Mary, Isabel and Maxine for their help and expertise in making Forest School a success, including their advanced den making skills put into practice twice!
