Empowering Young Carers at the Holly Lodge Centre.

Posted on: 23 August 2024

In August, we welcomed charity groups from Richmond Young Carers, Kingston Young Carers and Hounslow Young Carers.  Young Carers are children (aged 5-18) who are caring for others who are dependent on them because of a physical disability, learning difficulty, mental health problems, age or illness.  These charities provide support, advocacy, advice and information to young carers, enabling them to continue their caring roles and reduce their stress.  They provide opportunities for young cares to have the time and space they need to relax and have a break from their demanding and challenging roles.  At The Holly Lodge Centre, nestled amidst the serene beauty of nature, our centre offers a unique space for these remarkable children to have a break from the pressures of their everyday lives and discover the healing power of the natural world.

Nature’s Sanctuary:

Our specially designed workshops cater to young carers of all ages, providing a variety of engaging and enriching experiences.  From exploring the enchanted pond life to creating whimsical clay tree faces and spinning sycamore seed helicopters, our activities are designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and a deep connection with nature.

The positive impact of these nature-based activities on the young carers is profound.  Studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being.  At The Holly Lodge Centre, we witness first-hand the transformative power of these experiences as the young carers’ face light up with joy and excitement. Our workshops also provide the opportunity for the young carers to connect with peers who share similar experiences, build friendships, and gain valuable coping skills.

A Gift of Nature:

Thanks to the generous support of the Kaye Charitable Trust, we are able to offer these invaluable sessions to young carers free of charge.  We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the magic of nature and to find solace in its embrace.
