EGGcellent fun!

During the Easter holidays, a group of delightful young people from Brentford Young Carers visited us for a day of fun on our nature trail.

As spring is a time when birds are busy building their nests and laying their eggs, we decided to make all of our activities egg related!

We began by looking at examples of real birds nests and marvelling at how different species have different nest making techniques. We then took a walk around our nature trail and gathered suitable natural materials to help us create our own clay birds nests – their creations were fabulous!

Next, each participant pond dipped and were all delighted to see an abundance of wriggling tadpoles in each net!

After lunch, eggs were carefully decorated and then our visitors were set a challenge – could they create an egg holder to keep their egg safe from a drop from a height! They were given an assortment of recyclable material to choose from and were free to explore and design their own ideas – they were so creative! We then launched each egg from a first floor window and watched in anticipation to see if it was scrambled or intact – half survived! Not bad!

Our day came to an end with a chocolate egg hunt on the nature trail which caused much excitement – and when they collected their clay nests to take home some treats had magically appeared in them!
